[PRE-ORDER] Motoko Kusanagi & Fuchikoma: Unpainted resin 3D-printed model kit
SPECIAL INTRODUCTORY PRICE! This initial batch is limited to 10 copies. Once all 10 orders have been fulfilled, I may re-list the kit again in the future at a higher price. Each copy takes about 3 days to print, and they will ship out in the order they are, um, ordered. Depending on your place in line, it may take as long as 4-6 weeks for your kit to be shipped.

This is an un-assembled and un-painted “garage kit” style model kit, printed on a high-resolution resin 3D printer, and produced in cooperation with the sculptor, Pablo Resola. Photos of finished model are for illustration purposes only; assembly, finishing, and painting are not included. (Though check out the “Commissions” page if you want me to paint one for you.)
I’m not sure of the exact scale of the model but it’s something in the neighborhood of 1/10 or 1/8 scale. (I held Motoko up next to a model I knew to be 1/10 and she seemed just slightly bigger. 🤷♂️) Once assembled, the completed model’s dimensions are 150mm tall, 222.4mm long, and 171mm wide.
The kit comes with one Fuchikoma spider-tank model (22 pieces) and two full versions of Major Motoko Kusanagi (9 pieces each); one wearing a jacket, and one sleeveless. In total there are 40 parts to the kit.
The kit is being printed on an EPAX X10 printer, with an 8.9” 4K monochrome screen. I’m using a high-quality grey resin that is extremely precise in capturing detail; it’s quite hard without being too brittle, and takes sanding particularly well. Each print layer is just 0.02mm in height, requiring about 2.5 full days of print time per kit, and resulting in extremely smooth curves. For an even smoother finish, you can give the parts just a quick once-over with 400-grit sandpaper.
Some clean-up and finishing work is required/recommended. Anyone with beginner-to-intermediate experience building garage kits should make quick work of it. See below for notes on the specific finishing steps required.

Notes and tips on Clean-Up and Finishing this model:
Most of the parts have been printed hollow, and have drain/vent holes to help with printing and cleaning; the majority of these holes have been placed in areas that will be covered by other parts. Out of necessity, a handful of holes do appear on the visible surface of the model. In those cases, the holes are only 1.5mm or 2mm in diameter so that they can easily be filled-in with modelling putty and sanded smooth.
Where possible, printing supports have been placed on surfaces that will be obscured (by other parts) or out-of-view (on the underside of the model). Again, however, some printing supports were connected to visible surfaces out of necessity. All supports will be removed from parts during the print post-processing, but may have left some marks on the model’s surface; these may also benefit from some light sanding, and potentially a bit of putty if you want to get fancy with it.
Glue is required for assembly. Simple CA glue (aka “Super Glue”) will work fine for most of the model; for the connection between the Fuchikoma’s rear cockpit and its main body segment, a strong adhesive such as epoxy is recommended, as the bond will need to bare the full weight of the cockpit (and some of the weight of Motoko) across a relatively narrow surface area.
